Mid Century Modern Home Tour (Living Room & Kitchen)

hi everyone I'm Diana and I'm Patrick
00:02
and welcome to our home
00:03
[Applause]
00:20
so this is our front door this is
00:23
something we redid after we moved in
00:25
when we first moved in we had this
00:28
really hideous ornate glass floor that
00:31
we just didn't like so after a few
00:34
months my dad and I put in this new door
00:37
it's a lot more modern gives us a little
00:39
bit more privacy but still let's send a
00:41
good amount of natural light which we
00:42
really wanted we put in this beautiful
00:46
molding around it and it really just
00:47
fits with the style of our home so right
00:51
when you come in from the front door we
00:53
just have our simple coat hanger here
00:55
just for practical purposes and we got
00:58
this artwork from Etsy and the the
01:02
frames are actually supposed to be for
01:04
record records but we've framed the
01:07
artwork instead and this is just our
01:09
little plant and inside this massive
01:13
entryways you have this really cool
01:15
table this was actually my grandfather's
01:17
table he brought it over from Denmark in
01:21
like the 1960s and it's actual Danish
01:24
teak made by some Danish guy who I can't
01:27
pronounce his name but it's really cool
01:30
we loved it we loved the wood we loved
01:33
that mid-century modern look and we
01:35
actually redid the upholstery on the
01:37
seats you can see as new that's
01:39
something we added and we loved it
01:41
absolutely love it
01:45
and here's the new light fixture that we
01:48
put in from West Elm Ferry fits into our
01:51
mid-century modern home and on this side
01:54
of the wall we have some of our favorite
01:57
decor items we have this calligraphy
01:59
linen that I created for our wedding day
02:02
as well as this guestbook portrait
02:06
poster with all of our friends
02:08
signatures and a really good-looking
02:09
couple painted on and then we have this
02:13
makeshift desk that Patrick created it's
02:16
actually just a wooden board with IKEA
02:19
legs succulents and candles and some
02:25
watercolor paintings in here we have
02:31
this is our living room we have a few
02:35
things in here that I actually made with
02:37
my dad I guess we were pretty cheap when
02:40
we first got married my furniture so we
02:43
actually made it and I really wanted one
02:45
of these cool leaning shelves so I found
02:50
these scrap pieces of walnut had a wood
02:53
store nearby and built this leaning
02:55
shelf and we also made this is our crown
03:00
jewel the living room is one of my
03:01
favorite pieces definitely is this
03:03
beautiful walnut table that we made with
03:05
hairpin legs I found this really cool
03:09
piece at a place called Austin hardwoods
03:12
and it had this natural bend to it that
03:16
was actually part of the tree along with
03:18
this really cool knot here in the middle
03:20
and just just really beautiful
03:21
contrasting wood that we really liked
03:25
along with those two DIYs we actually
03:29
also redid this fireplace originally it
03:33
was a stone fireplace that took up a lot
03:36
of room and it just kind of took over
03:38
the whole living room and I had this
03:40
vision of having this really clean
03:42
fireplace so we added in shiplap laid in
03:46
some bricks and to tie it all off we
03:49
added this beautiful wooden mantel that
03:52
is made out of walnut
03:58
last but not least we got this this is
04:00
another piece also came from my grandpa
04:03
grandpa
04:04
it was his record player and yeah just
04:07
again it has that really cool
04:09
mid-century look that we love we love
04:11
being able to play records here and it
04:14
actually is pretty good at the sound
04:15
quality is great and that's kind of that
04:17
retro feel that's what it looks like on
04:21
the inside pretty dope
04:27
[Music]
04:56
so this right here this is the wall that
04:59
separates our entryway and living room
05:01
from the kitchen and something we always
05:05
have loved in houses are ones that have
05:08
a really open floor plan so our next
05:11
project is actually going to be to knock
05:12
this wall down that you're looking at
05:15
here and really just open up the space
05:17
into the dining room and into the
05:18
kitchen so let's step into the kitchen
05:22
which we are also completely recutting
05:28
so all these cabinets in here these are
05:31
all pretty old I don't know if they're
05:32
original or not but they're old cabinets
05:34
as you can see the worst thing we have
05:37
no dishwasher no dishwasher
05:39
so all these cabinets are gonna go we're
05:42
looking forward to demo day and we're
05:43
gonna put in all brand-new cabinets
05:45
we're gonna push this one out a bit so
05:48
it's gonna give us a bit more space in
05:49
here we're getting rid of all of this to
05:53
open up that entire wall to the living
05:55
room yeah so I really should create a
05:56
nice open flow that way we can be in the
06:00
kitchen and still be able to talk and
06:02
have it open into the living room
06:05
we are also redoing our floors which are
06:10
currently made of tiles in wood laminate
06:15
and carpet so we're actually gonna gut
06:17
all of this and make it all into one
06:20
laminate floors
06:21
[Music]
06:38
okay if you want to see more details of
06:42
the house as well as the fireplace that
06:44
we did I have some blog posts that I
06:47
wrote more detailed descriptions about
06:49

06:50
I'll be posting down below well thanks

06:55

06:57

07:03
